Takehiko Nakafuji: ‘White Noise’ (Tokyo Weekender)
I interviewed photographer Takehiko Nakafuji for Tokyo Weekender magazine, discussing the ambivalent, love-hate relationship with hometown Tokyo that he conveys in his latest photobook ‘White Noise’. The resulting four-page feature touches upon such issues as 2011’s Fukushima nuclear reactor meltdown and a recent rise in nationalist sentiment, and explains how Nakafuji tackles these through a combination of abrasive, high-contrast monochrome, and over-saturated colour suggestive of invisible airborne toxicity.
